I read her first book, Sequoia and enjoyed it thoroughly, and was not disappointed when she carried her immense talent through Pu'ukani's Song!She makes the reader feel like a part of the group of whales, heart filling, heart rending, heart thrilling moments are truly felt, because you are there!! You want to leap out of the water with joy, weep at the losses, and rejoice in the good things throughout the story.
I eagerly look forward to whatever her next book will be, knowing it will be as delightful as Pu'ukani's Song and Sequoia were.

this story is magical, in that the writer crafted a tale about those things that we often take for granted, applied her imagination to it and created a kind of magic only a good writer can create.
Beneath the surface of the story about Pu'ukani's clan of whales, his family, he has his own magic and spells he can use to protect and to sing to them. the story flows though their struggles, their sorrows and their ultimate triumphs. it is sometimes sad, often heartwarming, and in the end it is inspiring. I wont give anything away about that but it is a must read no matter what kind of book you like to read
Wonderful story of love and family from a point of view we don't normally see. I'd love to hear more stories of the Elaku clan!
This story is written from the point of view of a whale. The author masterfully shows how the majestic animal might see the world. All the hopes and fears and concerns in terms that would not be foreign to a denizen of the ocean. I enjoyed this tale a great deal and encourage anyone who loves whales or seeing the world from the perspective of other inhabitants of our planet to get this book. You will not be disappointed.
I had read Hannah Steenbock's first book Sequoia. I loved that book so I had to have this one and I was not disappointed. It is a beautiful story of whales and how they live and how much they care about each other. It was a wonderful, touching story.
Hannah Steenbock, is not only a talented writer but a dear friend as well. Her writing has always been such a blessing to read. She can whisk you away to another world. In both "Sequoia" or "Pu'ukani's Song", I was taken away on a journey both inside my own self and outside with the story and how the related to our world.
She has an amazing gift. One which I hope keeps rewarding us with more books for many, many more years to come!
I was thoroughly enchanted by this marvelous book, my heart moving and swelling with Pu'ukani throughout. It made me think, it made me feel...everything a good story should do. And it really gave me pause when I considered the lives of those magnificent creatures. I defy anyone to read this story and not look at whales differently. Ms. Steenbock has given these gentle giants a truly inspirational voice!
